Ergonomics & Manual Handling

What is Ergonomics?

Ergonomics is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimise human well being and overall system performance.

Why is Ergonomics Important?

The total economic cost of work-related injuries and illnesses in the workplace is estimated to be around $60 billion dollars with lower back injuries being one of most common work-related disability affecting employees from a wide range of industries.

WEGEL (WHS & Management Services) can assist in the review of your organisations workplace layout, processes and work flow to help in the management of ergonomic hazards in the workplace. In doing so, we are able to assist your organisation in creating a safe, comfortable and productive workplace by incorporating human abilities and limitation into the design of the workplace, this includes employees body size, strength, skill, speed, vision, hearing and even attitudes.

Manual Handling

Manual handling is a common cause of injury in the workplace. Manual handling is any activity that involves lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving, holding or restraining. It also includes sustained and awkward postures, or repetitive motions.

WEGEL (WHS & Management Services) can help your organisation identify and assess potential manual handling hazards in your workplace in order determine the most appropriate control measures for the elimination and/or reduction of manual handling hazards in your workplace.
